Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact has been essentially prohibited in Australia by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts’ Classification Board because to “implied sexual violence”.
While no specific reason is given on the ratings website itself – in “reason for refused classification,” it simply invites people to contact the organization for more information – an Australian Classification Board statement said the game “contains a scene of a visual depiction of implied sexual violence, where an adult male exposes himself to persons under the age of 18 years.”
Hunter x Hunter will release its first full-fledged fighting game in 2025, featuring 3v3 Nen ability team bouts. It’s unclear at this point whether publisher Arc System Works would appeal the judgment or censor the game to appease the board.
Ten years after the notorious controversy surrounding its release in Australia, PlayStation just this month compensated PS5 owners who purchased Hotline Miami 2 and took the game out of the market.
Designer Jonatan Söderström famously advised Australian fans to just pirate Hotline Miami 2 in January 2015 after the Australian Classification Board banned the film’s release because it contained a segment that could be skipped that depicted simulated sexual assault.
